Sophie Waddell

Before she was a veterinarian, Dr Sophie Waddell was a rider. Growing up on her family's cattle property in rural New South Wales gave her a firsthand understanding of the partnership between horse and rider—a perspective that continues to shape her approach today.

After graduating from the University of Melbourne, Sophie worked in rural practice in British Columbia before completing an equine internship in Calgary focused on sports medicine. Her experience spans FEI sport horses, racing, Western performance and pleasure horses.

An FEI Permitted Treating Veterinarian and EVA Young Member President (2026–2027), Sophie has a particular passion for sport and pleasure horses and the wider equestrian community. Her focus is practical, personalised care that keeps horses healthy, comfortable and doing what they love.
